Last night our community orchestra started up again after taking the summer off. And it was like someone plugged me into a charger--I felt renewed, invigorated, and completely motivated! I'm not sure if it was because I finally got a night away from my kids, lol. I'm sure that was part of it. But I think it was working my brain in a creative way. A different creative way.
I think there's something to be said for using our brains differently that can help contribute to our writing. I've heard exercise is another great way to get the creative writing juices flowing, that one author will go for a run before she begins to write a single word.
Others I've heard do some sort of meditation. I know for me, I ALWAYS have to have music playing when I write--words or no words, doesn't matter to me. I mostly pick music that fits the mood of the scene I'm writing. While writing my YA horror that I'm currently querying, I listened to a lot of *darker* music; or when I'm writing a shmoozy or a kissy scene, I put on some love songs that fit whatever mood I'm trying to create.
What about you, do you have a creative outlet to help with your writing? Maybe you're also an artist, or you like to do some yoga. Maybe for some it's dancing or singing. Whatever it is, do you find it helps with your writing?
